Four years after entering the Nantes Conservatory, having won a gold medal at thirteen, he was admitted to the Paris Opera Ballet School. Despite his atypical profile, Hugo Marchand joined the Paris Opera's corps de ballet at seventeen. He rose through the ranks, competing against others, as well as himself, in international competitions, and reached the ultimate rank of principal dancer in March 2017.
