Four years after entering the Nantes Conservatory, having won a gold medal at thirteen, he was admitted to the Paris Opera Ballet School. Despite his atypical profile, Hugo Marchand joined the Paris Opera's corps de ballet at seventeen. He rose through the ranks, competing against others, as well as himself, in international competitions, and reached the ultimate rank of principal dancer in March 2017. By sharing his apprenticeship, Hugo Marchand takes a look at dance as a school of acceptance. A school of acceptance, a school of the immensity of the work required to realize a dream. From the quest for excellence to the shaping of self-confidence to achieve it. The tug-of-war between doubt and determination. From solitude to overexposure, of friendship possible despite competition. The perpetual confrontation with the mirror, a reflection of imperfections to be overcome. The experience of a metamorphosis.
